There’s a moment in every scientist’s life when we realize that our discovery efforts feel harder than they should. We declutter our schedule, reduce distractions, reorganize our workspace, and try to eliminate every obstacle we can find. And yet, nothing changes. The breakthroughs don’t come. The insights don’t land. The pace of discovery stays stubbornly slow.
That’s when life asks us to pause and reconsider what we’re actually doing.
Sometimes the problem isn’t the obstacles. Sometimes the problem is that we haven’t built the inner capacity for discovery itself.
In other words, we could waste a lot of time trying to overcome obstacles to scientific discovery (call it the “grey wolf”).
But if we didn’t build our internal capacity for discovery (our “white wolf”) we won’t get the results we want.
