Research Spotlight

Research Spotlight

Here on the Research Spotlight page, you will find posts that summarize one piece of research, what it means for scientific discovery, and a list of suggestions for how to put the findings in action in your own work.

Each Spotlight piece is divided into three key parts:

  1. “The Short Read” – two sentences, a question and an answer, summarizing the research and its findings.
  2. “The Long Read” – a more complete summary of a research article or book, including methods and findings.
  3. “Put It In Action” – a numbered list of three ways to put the research findings into practice in your own discovery work.

Each post also includes the best quote I read in the research, which inspired me to think more deeply about how to do better research and pursue scientific discovery.  A full citation and link to the work is also included at the end of each post.

I’ll summarize both classic articles and books in related fields, as well as alert you to fresh new research appearing in places like Nature, The New York Times, and specialty journals like Ergo.

At the very bottom of this page you will find a form to “Suggest a Research Spotlight entry…” where you can submit the titles of books, articles, and more that you would like to see summarized in a Spotlight piece.
